Glory Moments

Sometimes in life we have those moments that make you catch your breath. They thrill your heart and excite you and make you feel as though you could laugh or cry or shout just because of the beauty of those moments.

You know the moments I'm talking about. It's that instant when you look up and catch a glimpse of a shooting star or an evening moon rise or that precarious moment when the sun just begins to glimpse over the edge of the horizon. It's as though the whole world is holding its breath in anticipation. It's that moment when one of your best friends calls to tell you she's engaged or pregnant. It thrills your soul with its beauty. Or it's those moments when you just can't stop laughing or singing. It's those moments when you and your brother and sister, all together in the same room, torture each other mercilessly with your words simply because it's your language of love and it's just so good to be together.

Even still, it's those moments when you've just gotten that phone call and you've begged God, "Please, No, not this." And in the midst of your tears and frantic hurrying to the hospital, He overwhelms you with a peace that you don't quite understand.

And when what you most feared happens, it's the hope that comes even in the midst of the pain. Because at the end of everything else, the gospel- the unwavering conviction of the providence of God through Jesus Christ- remains the foundation of your life, and God's love endures as the constant, one great love.

And then, it's those moments when, in all your stubborn, willful pride, you look up from the place where God has brought you, from the scriptural authority given you for answers, and a light turns on, and you realize, finally realize, what God has gently been teaching you for so long that you've simply failed to see.

I love those moments. I call them glory moments because everytime I have one, I feel as though I've just received a spectacular gift from God in which He has peeled back a layer of His glory and allowed me a glimpse.

These moments come unexpectedly and I haven't figured out a way to capture them or create them. It's as though they come upon you unexpectedly even when you've seen the same thing ten million times. But our God works in unexpected and surprising ways even in the simple ordinary everyday. Another step on the road to transformation- More glory to God.

I am speechless, Karla. Really. I love how you wrap into words a feeling that I forgot other people share. Very beautiful.
