Trying New Things

I had an extremely busy weekend this past weekend which was a nice switch from working on school work all weekend. On Friday night, my friend and I went to see the 300 at the Imax theater in Covington. Though it's not a movie that I would have suggested or really ever even known about, it was actually pretty good. It was different, and it was more like watching art. That's my film review for the year.

On Saturday, I had my first all day training for the shelter. It was tough. We ran through some of the basics for Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, and I learned some things that I never knew before. We watched a horrible film called Once Were Warriors that was an eye opener. It was so hard to watch that movie, and a few times I thought I was going to be physically sick, but it was necessary to give us some idea of what these women and children go through. Needless to say, at the end of the day, I needed to detox. So my friend and I went out for sushi. It was my first time at a sushi place, and I really liked it. Afterward we were sitting in a coffee shop talking when this cat just randomly walked by. He came in through the door, so I'm assuming he just walked in when someone walked out. It was funny, but you had to be there.

On Sunday, I went to visit my friend Francine's Hispanic church plant on the North Shore. They've just started this church less than a year ago, but the membership is already up to 100 and these are new Christians. They've done so many baptisms, but one of the needs for that church right now is discipleship. I went to visit because they would like me to help out with discipling some of the women. It sounds like a very cool opportunity, but I'm a little concerned because, though I speak the language, I still make a lot of mistakes. I'm praying about it, so we'll see what happens.
