Spring Break

This morning, I went to work for Habitat for Humanity here in New Orleans. About five of us from the seminary went just to volunteer for a little while. We were surrounded by about 250 college students who are on their Spring Break. It was a slightly different dynamic for us who live here and those who drove all the way from Anchorage, Alaska or New York. Their energy level and enthusiasm were slightly higher than ours for 7:00 A.M. Also, when did college students start to look so young?

Over the weekend, I had to work some. On Friday, I went to a birthday party and met a whole bunch of new people. I like meeting new people. Especially new people who like Jane Austen. By the end of the night we had practically formed a Jane Austen fan club. Saturday was my friend's birthday, but he was sick, so we didn't get to do much for his birthday. Really, it's been a week of birthdays.

I've started going to a Hispanic church on the North Shore which for those of you who don't know what I mean by "the North Shore" that's the area across Lake Ponchartrain from New Orleans. To the North; hence, the name "north Shore." I've been visiting this church for the past three weeks now, and it's a very interesting church because of the population dynamics. It's new, and growing rapidly. They're getting so many new members and new Christians that they haven't had much time for discipling. I don't know exactly what they're wanting me to do, but I've been hanging out at the church, and I've gotten to know a lot of the people. I'm planning to continue going for a time at least so that I can help out some.

It is my spring break, but all that means is I'm not going to class this week. I don't get much of a break from anything else, but that's OK. I'm enjoying the stuff that I'm doing right now.
