I meant to mention something a few days ago about the tornadoes that hit our area on Tuesday morning. If you stay in tune to national news or if you at least check out the AOL homepage, you probably saw something on the News about it.
I've never been able to sleep through thunderstorms. I always wake up partly out of fear but also partly from excitement. A thunderstorm can really show you how great God's power is, and for some reason I always feel close to God during a thunderstorm even though I get scared. It's pretty cool.
Anyway, I had woken up about two A.M. for this thunderstorm, and it was a strong thunderstorm. It seemed to get worse and worse, and eventually it got so bad, I got up and walked out of my room because I thought the wind was going to break my window. I went back in and sat down on the edge of my bed as the power went out including all of the outside street lights.
Now, maybe I've seen Twister one too many times, but I started to think there was a tornado out there. The lightning was constant, there was no thunder, and the wind was whirring so loud that I couldn't hear anything else. And then it stopped and went away.
The next morning in class we were talking about the storm, and we were looking at the News and hearing how a tornado touched down in Gentilly killing one woman when her Fema trailer tipped over. I live on Gentilly, and this happened two blocks away. Many Fema trailers in the area were tossed around and damaged, and many homes that had recently been remodeled are once again destroyed. I found out later that there were three tornadoes in New Orleans that knocked out power for Tuesday and closed down many schools and businesses.
I hurt for these people who can't seem to catch a break. As we've been praying for them in class, we're so used to saying the word hurricane, that we always have to stop and correct ourselves and say "please help the people affected by the hur-- tornadoes." Many students were able to go out and do ministry around town trying to help out those who were affected by the tornado on Tuesday. Opportunities to talk about Jesus abound because people are hungry for The Answer. I pray that they get it.

That sounds very scary. I didn't even know they got tornados in New Orleans.
